Employee Benefits
At RSM US-El Salvador, we empower passionate teams of professionals to own their future, personally and professionally. Our comprehensive total rewards package supports them in this pursuit. Benefits play a crucial role in our total rewards model, designed to enhance our employees’ physical, emotional, financial and community wellbeing.
Legal responsibilities
All employees are entitled to specific statutory benefits on a permanent basis from the day they enter the firm. These are:
Social security: Medical care is provided for the employee, extendable to the spouse and children under 12 years of age, through the various care centers of the Salvadoran Social Security Institute (ISSS). Additional benefits around medical leaves are provided by the firm—please refer to the “Firm benefits” section below.
Pension fund: The employee and employer contribute to the Salvadoran pension fund program (AFP) with which the employee is affiliated, in an amount based on a salary percentage established by the Superintendency of Pensions. The AFP provides a pension for retirement, disability benefits due to common types of accidents and an inheritance for an employee’s descendants.
Annual vacation: Fifteen calendar days (11 working days) are granted annually as paid time off once the employee has fulfilled a year of continuous service in the firm. The employee receives payment on their work anniversary equivalent to 15 days of their salary plus 30% of that amount. Additional benefits around vacation are provided by the firm—please refer to the “Firm benefits” section below.
Annual bonus (aguinaldo): The firm pays this bonus to the employee for each year worked at the firm, or proportionally if, by Dec. 12, the employee has not completed one year of employment. The bonus is paid between Dec. 12 and Dec. 20 each year and corresponds to 10 or more days of salary, with the number of days based on seniority, according to the law. Additional benefits around the annual bonus (aguinaldo) are provided by the firm—please refer to the “Firm benefits” section below.
Firm benefits
Additional employee benefits RSM offers include:
Bonuses: Build financial security for the future. Employees receive an additional amount to supplement the annual bonus (aguinaldo) and are eligible for a performance-based annual bonus and incentive compensation programs. Employees can also earn referral bonuses when job applicants they refer are hired by the firm. In addition, employees can enhance their professional experience with a certification paid for by the firm and enjoy a bonus upon successful completion.
- Complementary supplement to the annual bonus (aguinaldo): The firm supplements the annual bonus (aguinaldo) so that the amount paid totals one month of the employee’s base salary, complementing the portion dictated by law.
- Performance-based annual bonus: The firm grants this annual bonus based on firm results and employee performance.
- Employee referral bonus: The firm grants a referral bonus to an employee when a candidate they refer is hired.
- Certification bonus: The firm grants a bonus to the employee when they complete an approved certification.
Private health care (hospital, medical, dental and vision insurance): Take advantage of a progressive insurance benefits package that provides coverage for services designed to meet the needs of all employees and their families.
- The firm provides private health care benefits, which include hospital, medical, dental and vision coverage, at no cost to the employee.
- The firm covers the premium of employee dependents up to a certain percentage of the employee’s annual insurance premium.
Medical leave: The firm supplements ISSS coverage—which provides 75% of a monthly base salary up to $1,000, starting on the fourth day of medical leave—by paying the balance of the employee’s full monthly base salary.
Mental health:
- Psychological and psychiatric consultations are covered under the medical insurance.
- Employees and their dependents, including spouses in El Salvador, have access to a comprehensive mental health and wellbeing program at no cost through Modern Health. This program includes up to sixteen one-on-one sessions with certified mental health coaches, up to sixteen one-on-one sessions with licensed clinical therapists in their preferred language, and unlimited group support sessions, referred to as "Circles." Additionally, participants have access to a library of guided meditations, self-paced digital courses, and ongoing wellbeing assessments to monitor and support their mental health over time.
Employee marriage: Enjoy up to 40 hours of marriage leave.
New parents: All new parents are encouraged to take time to bond with their child with paid time off in addition to the legal benefit, and receive a welcome baby bonus.
- For mothers, the firm grants 10 additional working days of maternity leave, for up to 18 continuous weeks of paid maternity leave.
- The firm supplements ISSS coverage—which provides 100% of a monthly base salary up to $1,000—by paying the balance of the employee’s full monthly base salary.
- Fathers may take up to six continuous weeks of paid paternity leave.
- Parents receive a $250 welcome baby bonus and a baby gift.
Adoption and surrogacy: We support all kinds of families. Parents can take time to bond with their new child with up to 18 weeks of paid parenting leave, and receive a welcome baby bonus.
- Mothers receive up to 18 continuous weeks of paid maternity leave.
- Fathers receive up to six continuous weeks of paid paternity leave.
- Parents receive a $250 welcome baby bonus and a baby gift.
Family caregiver leave: Employees may take up to six weeks of paid leave to care for a family member with a serious medical condition.
Bereavement: When you need time to grieve and settle the affairs of an immediate family member, we provide five days of compassionate paid leave.
Paid time off (PTO): Time away from work is beneficial for everyone! We offer a flexible PTO program.
- The firm provides four additional working days per year as PTO, for a total of 15 working days of PTO (11 working days by law + 4 additional working days).
- PTO is cumulative from the first month of employment (unlike the annual vacation granted by law, which is applicable only after a year in the firm).
- PTO is flexible and can be taken as the employee desires, as long as it is coordinated with their advisor.
- After five years of employment, five additional working days for PTO are granted, for a total of 20 working days.
- After 10 years of employment, five additional working days for PTO are granted, for a total of 25 working days.
Birthdays: Enjoy four additional hours of PTO for your birthday.
Holidays: Employees enjoy more holidays than those legally recognized in El Salvador, including five additional days in December so you can spend quality time with your loved ones.
Wellbeing days: As advocates for your health and wellbeing, we offer two additional days off to provide you an opportunity to step away from the physical and mental demands of everyday life and come back refreshed and clearheaded.
Flexibility: RSM supports formal and informal flexibility in a day, a week, or a year, empowering you to balance life’s demands while also maintaining your ability to serve clients. We promote a hybrid work environment for most of our employees, where they can flex between office and home locations depending on their engagement, team and personal needs.
- The employee can schedule their work hours to fit their personal needs, if their role allows (certain roles are shift-based) and if their direct leader agrees.
- The firm will work with the employee to find the option that best suits their personal and team needs, whether working virtually, at the office or in a hybrid model. Some roles require employees to be in the office full-time.
- Attire is flexible but should be appropriate for the employee’s role and work setting.
