About Mike

Mike Lundberg is the industry audit policy leader for RSM’s assurance practice. In this role, he leads the firm’s industry program for the National Professional Standards Group. Program members are responsible for industry-specific audit and accounting guidance, including methodology, tools, thought leadership, and training for the assurance practice.

Mike is also the national director of financial institution services for RSM’s assurance practice. He is responsible for audit, accounting, and risk containment matters across the firm’s financial institution practice, which serves community banks, credit unions, finance and leasing companies, and other specialty lenders.

Experience

Since Mike joined RSM in 1995, he has served clients across various industries but has focused his work primarily on large community banks. He has worked with financial institutions on integrated audits; debt and equity placements through initial public and private offerings; business combinations, including multiple target transactions; assistance with acquisition and sale transactions; evaluations and improvements of policies, procedures, and controls; examinations of trust departments; and improving their financial reporting. He joined the national office in 2012 as the national director of financial institutions.

Mike is active in the profession, serving on various AICPA and Center for Audit Quality committees and panels. Mike frequently speaks on audit and accounting topics affecting the financial institution industry.

He has led RSM’s industry audit policy program since its inception in 2021 and also leads the firm’s national office audit industry team. Under his stewardship, these teams are responsible for industry-specific assurance matters, including accounting and auditing guidance. In addition to supporting audit teams and clients, they develop audit tools and thought leadership centered on their respective industries.

Mike enjoys working with clients and teams to find innovative solutions to problems. By enhancing the industry-specific knowledge of RSM’s teams, he believes RSM can better understand clients’ businesses and develop an audit plan tailored to the situation and risk, resulting in a more effective and efficient audit.
